Botox in Colombia — Natural Results, Placed with Precision
Botulinum toxin is the most requested aesthetic treatment in the world for expression lines. If you see lines on the forehead, between the brows or at the corners of the eyes — or you simply look tired when you are not — Botox can soften those movements without changing your face. In my practice I assess your facial anatomy, the way you actually move, and which areas genuinely need treatment. I see patients in Cartagena, and on scheduled dates in Bogotá and Medellín.

- WHAT BOTOX IS
Botulinum toxin: what it does to expression lines
Botulinum toxin type A is a neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes the facial muscles behind expression lines. When those muscles relax, the skin above them smooths out — forehead lines, the frown lines between the brows, crow’s feet — without freezing how you express yourself.
It takes 15 to 30 minutes, needs no recovery time, and results start to show 3 to 5 days later. They last roughly 4 to 6 months, depending on how quickly your body metabolizes the product.
As both a radiologist and an aesthetic physician, I work from the anatomy. When a case calls for it, I use ultrasound to identify the structures underneath and place the product more precisely.

- FAQ
Frequently asked questions about Botox
The questions international patients ask most about Botox.
How much does Botox cost in Colombia?
Botox in Colombia varies with the area treated and the number of units needed. With Dr. Vives, prices start at COP $800,000 for a single area such as the frown lines or the forehead. For fuller treatments the price is set at the assessment consultation, where your facial anatomy and goals are reviewed. International patients can request the equivalent quote in US dollars before traveling.
How many units of Botox do I need?
It depends on the strength and size of your muscles. As a general reference: forehead 30–50 units; frown lines (glabella) 20–30 units; crow’s feet 10–15 units per side. At the consultation Dr. Vives sets the exact dose for your anatomy and your goal, using ultrasound guidance for placement.
How long does Botox last?
Botox lasts 3 to 6 months on average. Results start to show 2 to 5 days after the injection and reach their peak at 10 to 14 days. How long it lasts depends on your metabolism, the area treated and the number of units. With regular treatment, some patients find the effect lasts longer.
Does it hurt?
Very fine needles are used. Most patients describe it as a small pinch at each point. If you are particularly sensitive, topical anesthetic can be applied first.
At what age should I start Botox?
Botox is generally used preventively from around 25–30 years of age, and correctively from about 30–45. What matters more than age is whether expression lines are actually setting in. At the assessment Dr. Vives reviews each case individually; with younger patients the focus is on prevention and facial balance.
How often should Botox be repeated?
Every 4 to 6 months to maintain the result. Over time, with regular treatment, some patients can stretch the interval toward 6 months as the muscle weakens. Dr. Vives follows each patient to work out the right interval for them.
Does Dr. Vives use ultrasound to place Botox?
Yes. Dr. Vives uses high-frequency ultrasound to assess the muscular and vascular anatomy before injecting Botox. That means more precision and more control, and it helps steer clear of vessels and nerves. It also confirms the toxin is deposited in the target muscle. Most aesthetic practices do not offer it.
Can I see Dr. Vives in Bogotá or Medellín?
Yes. Dr. Vives is based in Cartagena, where he sees patients on a regular weekly schedule at his practice in Bocagrande. He also travels to Bogotá and Medellín on scheduled dates each month and sees patients at a partner clinic in each city, following the same assessment protocol.
Botox is assessed and treated in the same visit in all three cities, so a single scheduled date is usually enough.
Because Bogotá and Medellín are consultation days rather than permanent offices, dates are confirmed before you travel. Request the next available date through the form and we will confirm the city and the date with you. If you are traveling from abroad, you can also start with an online consultation before booking your trip.
